  2. LIGHTWAVE IRC CHANNEL FOR INTERACTIVE LIGHTWAVE INFO!

  4. With the advent of the Internet and low-cost connections via online
  5. services such at Netcom and others providing SLIP/PPP, it is now
  6. possible to work interactively with other LightWave users from around
  7. the globe!  You can interact in REAL TIME with other people who share
  8. your interests.  You can help them and they can help you almost as if
  9. you were right there! How? By using IRC (Internet Relay Chat)!
  10.  
  11. IRC allows one to join different channels (much like CB simulators on
  12. various BBS's or chat rooms on AOL or Prodigy) and to type in real
  13. time to other users, in that channel, from around the world.  There's no
  14. limit to the amount of people you can have in a channel.  With
  15. programs for the Amiga such as GrapeVine and AmIRC, mIRC and WSIrc for
  16. the IBM, IRCII for Unix machines and a SLIP or PPP connection to the
  17. Internet, you too can join in on these conversations!

  19. Several of us have created the LightWave IRC chat channel and there's
  20. always somebody there to help people and to just chat about LightWave
  21. and other various topics related to using LightWave. (Sometimes the
  22. conversations stray..but that's the fun of it!)
  23.  
  24. Besides the talk about lightwave, IRC allows you to share files with
  25. others via something called DCC (Direct Client Connect).  While you're
  26. chatting with someone about why your model doesn't render correctly,
  27. you can send them a render of your scene as well as your model so they
  28. can look at them and tell you what you may have done wrong.

  30. NOTE: Routinely, updates and patches to LW have been released FIRST on IRC
  31. direct from Newtek!

  33. THE IRC MONTHLY PANEL DISCUSSIONS
  34.  
  35. Myself and a select few individuals are attempting to start what we
  36. hope to be a monthly live interactive conference via IRC (Internet
  37. Relay Chat) pertaining to various aspects of LightWave featuring
  38. prominent figures in the animation/graphics world.
  39.  
  40. We plan to gather an elite group of professional Lightwave animators
  41. as well as recruit professionals in the industry to serve as panelists.
  42. These panelists will answer your questions pertaining to various aspects
  43. of Lightwave. All questions will be routed through moderators which
  44. will pass them on to the panelists.  The guest panelists will then
  45. answer them in turn.

  47. HOW IT WORKS:
  48.  
  49. We will have two IRC channels open called; #LWPanel and #Lightwave.
  50. (#lightwave is the normal discussion channel that is available to
  51. everyone all the time)
  52. The panelist will be in #LWPanel while the public will join both.
  53.  
  54. #LWPanel will be moderated and will allow only the panelist to speak
  55. at random while the public will only be able to speak in turn as the
  56. moderator see's fit.
  57.  
  58. #Lightwave will not be moderated and will allow the public to chat
  59. amongst themselves while awaiting their turn to address the panel.

  61. We feel that this will be a great learning experience for all and
  62. should be alot of fun. This is just another means of sharing
  63. information about LightWave via the Internet. We hope to have you
  64. aboard.

  66. WHERE WE ARE NOW
  67.  
  68. We're currently in the process of setting up the first few months topics
  69. and trying to gather panelists and other professionals to participate in
  70. the panel discussions.  We are also gathering information from you so
  71. that we can make this forum as productive and easy to use as possible.

  73. Please answer the appropriate group of questions below (Panelists or
  74. Attendee) and submit the answers to either of the two addresses listed
  75. at the end of this message.  We are planning on starting the discussions
  76. in March, so please reply as soon as possible.

  79. SOME QUESTIONS FOR PROSPECTIVE PANELISTS

  81. If you are interested in becoming a panelist, please reply with the
  82. following information so that we can determine a date and time that
  83. best suits everyones schedule.

  85. 1) Generally, what day of the week would you be available for one to
  86. two hours starting at 10:00 PM EST?
  87.  
  88. Note: We feel that this time would be the best compromise for the east
  89. and west coast people in the USA. We may change this based on
  90. responses to this questionair.

  92. 2) Please give one other day and time.
  93.  
  94. 3) If there are any particluar dates that would be best for you
  95. between now and the end of March, please list.
  96.  
  97. 4) Please list projects and or accomplishments. We will compile a
  98. list of these for each panelist which will be echoed to the public
  99. before the conference begins.

  102. them here.

  106. So that we can best serve your needs, please answer the following
  107. questions in as much detail as possible.

  109. 1) Do you have access to the Internet now and if not, do you plan on
  110. obtaining access in the near future?

  112. 2) Would you be interested in attending such IRC discussions and do
  113. you feel this is a worth-while project?
  114.  
  115. 3) What topics would you like to see covered in panel discussions on IRC?
  116.  
  117. 4) What would be the best time for you to attend such discussions?
  118.  
  119. 5) Do you need help in getting an Internet connection and an IRC
  120. program so that you can attend the monthly discussions?

  123. Please answer the ATTENDEE questions and send them to us even if you
  124. can't currently connect via the Interenet.  We will be looking at ways
  125. to get those interested connected up to IRC>
